Promoting the academic development of Cultural Astronomy since 1996.

WELCOME TO ISAAC

Welcome to the website of the International Society for Archaeoastronomy and Astronomy in Culture (ISAAC). Founded in 1996, we are the global professional organization promoting the academic development of cultural astronomy (archaeoastronomy and ethnoastronomy). The goal of the Society is to enhance the professional status of these disciplines by forming ties with existing international, regional, and national academic bodies; organizing meetings; and assisting in the development of interdisciplinary projects in cultural astronomy in its widest sense.

ISAAC is responsible for the “Oxford” series of international symposia on cultural astronomy. These are held at approximately three to four-year intervals and are the principal conferences in the field of cultural astronomy. The latest meeting, Oxford XII, was held in La Plata, Argentina 2022.

OXFORD XII
Our meeting in La Plata, Argentina was a resounding success! Thanks to everyone for coming out and making it such a memorable and engaging experience.
